The last several weeks I’ve read numerous heart wrenching news articles and editorials about this generation of young people. One article even said that we are raising a generation of savages and thugs. I won’t deny that there are disheartening and tragic things happening with the children and teenagers. Absolutely heinous crimes have been perpetrated against innocent people at the hands of teenagers recently. News headlines serve as a constant reminder of what is going on with this generation. Those headlines don’t even begin to tell the whole story though. Yesterday morning at church our teenagers gathered at one side of the altar and the younger children were gathered at the front during praise and worship. I watched as they sang praises to God. One little girl had such passion exuding from her that it convicted my heart.
One of the songs we sang is called “It’s Not Over”. While we sang I watched those kids and prayed for them. God put it in my heart so strongly that it’s not over for this generation. I believe in this generation! God believes in this generation! He chose each one of them to be alive for such a time as this. I am firmly convinced that this generation can turn around. It’s not over! Ricardo Sanchez and Israel Houghton wrote It’s Not Over. The song was written during a tragic circumstance surrounding Ricardo Sanchez’s son Josiah. He dove into the shallow end of a swimming pool. God miraculously healed him even though he could have died or been paralyzed for life. It may look dark for this generation but it’s not over! It may look impossible but our God is in it and there is no limit! From now on I’ll never sing that song the same again. For me it will be a personal declaration that it’s not over for our young people. It’s up to us to stand in the gap for them. It’s up to us to believe IN them and believe God for them. Don’t stop reading because you think this is a call to work in the nursery, Children’s Church or with the youth. That’s not where this is going. If God is calling you to that then you need to OBEY. However, this is a call for prayer and intercession. It’s a call to get involved when and how you are able. I don’t have my own children but I do have children in my life. I have nieces and nephews and neighborhood children that I see every day. God will give you ideas and ways to reach this generation if you ask Him. If you’re willing to do it, He will show you. Just be willing to step out in faith and watch what God will do. If your children or grandchildren aren’t serving God, sow your willingness to stand and minister to other young people. In April I celebrated my 40th birthday. God gave me a great idea on how to have an impact on all of my nieces and nephews for Him. I love being fun “Aunt Jen”. I don’t want to just be fun Aunt Jen. I want them to know how much I love God. I want them to see His fire burning in me. Instead of buying a birthday gift for myself this year, I went to the Christian bookstore and bought some Bibles. My goal is to eventually give one to each of my nieces, nephews and also to my great nieces and nephews. So far I’ve started working on two Bibles. One is for my first niece in Germany and the other is for a niece that lives locally. I’m spending time with those Bibles and praying for each niece individually. As the Spirit of God leads me, I’m marking scriptures for them. I also bought a notebook for each one and will fill it with personal notes and prayers as the Lord guides. I realize that it will take some time until I’m able to give each of them a special Bible and notebook from Aunt Jen. I have quite a few nieces and nephews but I won’t stop until each one has one has one. That might be something you’ll want to do for your own children or grandchildren. It doesn’t have to be a huge youth or children’s ministry but each one of us can do something. We can love them and stand in the gap for them. We can declare that it’s not over for this generation!
This is a 5 minute video of Ricardo and Jennette Sanchez giving their testimony.
